Story behind the 3.47 Rubik’s cube world record.

You probably know about the Rubik’s cube, and some of you may know how to solve it. But almost no-one can solve it in such small times.
This record was set by Yusheng Du on 24.10.2018 in the Wuhu Open 2018 competition. At first almost no-one had believed the record, as Yusheng averages around 10 second while solving the cube, and they thought it was staged, and/or fake. It’s easy to believe that theory, as he had no camera watching him solve the cube, and he wasn’t a popular name in the speedcubing (solving the Rubik’s cube as fast as possible) community, so he had practically everyone thought it was fake. Another problem that he had to face was that he lives in china, and china doesnt allow people to use outside-of-china webpages, meaning that people couldn't contact him.
Yusheng with the record time
But later a video of him solving the cube in the record time was released (link), but it was just a security camera, and you couldn’t quite see the cube, so it didnt help much with the case. All of this changed when the scramble (sequence of moves used to scramble the cube) was released, and cubers (people who solve the cube) started finding the way how he solved it. Turns out, he had a very lucky scramble, and he didn’t need to use many moves to solve the cube. He just used this opportunity well. Then multiple cubers made solve reconstructions (reconstructions of how to solve the cube from the scrambled state) and realised that almost everyone could solve it in low times, as the scramble was just that easy.
In conclusion, yusheng got a great opportunity and used it very well, and even that no one believed him, in the end he became one of the most popular names in the cubing community. Will his record be broken? Probably not because a shorter solve would be even more luck based as described in this video. But it will be interesting to see if someone will be able to set a new world record.

So how many moves did it take Yusheng to solve the puzzle? Have you timed yourself after having someone scramble a cube? Rubik's cubes have been around since the seventies, I think as I seem to remember them when I was a teenager. What do you think is the continuing appeal of the cube?
OdpovědětVymazatIt took him 27 moves = 7.78 TurnsPerSecond. I have done that and i also have been to multiple cubing comtetitions. I think that the appeal is continuing, but its shifting from friend of my friend can solve it, to companies making cubes that can be costumized that they cant be the perfect fit for you.
VymazatHow hard do you think it is to truly get so lucky with a scramble, and do you thing that a new record (even by something like a split second) will happen. If so, how long do you think it will take for a new record to be set.
OdpovědětVymazatI would say something around 3-5 years, as 2 years have almost already passed, and nobody broke the record. But the second shortest time became smaller from 4.22 to 4.16, so people are slowly improving.
VymazatWhat is your record in solving a 3x3 rubix cube?
OdpovědětVymazat13.77 seconds. It was a lucky scramble as i used to average around 2é seconds at the time.
VymazatDo you see him as an inspiration, a lucky guy, or anything else?? What does he mean to you and why did you want to write about him and his record time?
OdpovědětVymazatHes probably just a lucky guy. And i wrote about him because i found interest in cubing again after a short hiatus.
